In 1997 Jon Paul purchased his first camera and began to capture the visions he experienced. Jon Paul often found himself saying to his then girlfriend (now wife) “If I were a photographer I would take a picture of that.” After seeing those amazing places with the clarity of a focused athlete, the simple beauty of nature had become ingrained in his mind as a necessary ingredient to health and perspective in life. Each one of these endeavors opened his eyes to the amazing beauty of wild, pristine natural places. After graduating he moved to Lake Tahoe, adding climbing, fly fishing, skiing and any outdoor activities he could to fill his time. In 1991 Jon Paul graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. These experiences motivated him to pursue a major course of study in Biology. By the time of his graduation Jon had canoeed the Green River of Utah, interacted with migrating grey whales in Baja, and camped in grizzly country in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Along with an amazing curriculum that incorporated the surrounding mountain environment into the learning process, Jon Paul was also afforded his first opportunities to travel to wild places. Through hockey, Jon Paul was invited to attend a boarding school in Colorado where he was introduced to the outdoors. At the age of nine his family moved out west to Arizona. Originally from New York, Jon Paul spent a good portion of his first 18 years playing indoor ice hockey.
